On Tuesday 1 November in celebration of International Pathology Day (IPD), the doors of the College will open to in-person delegates for the first time in three years.
In association with our event sponsors The British Society for Haematology and The Pathologist, the International Pathology Day Conference will also mark the College's 60th anniversary with the theme, adapting laboratory medicine to global developments and challenges. The programme is packed with talks, a roundtable discussion, poster competition and resources, so any one can get involved from anywhere in the world.
The speakers
We are delighted to welcome our special guest Dr Michael Ryan, Executive Director, WHO Health Emergencies Programme who will be joining us virtually to open the conference.
In conversation with College President, Professor Mike Osborn, Dr Ryan will share his experience of managing acute risks to global health for nearly 25 years.
We also have a range of inspired talks delivered by speakers from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, The Tropical Health Education Trust and Global Hospitals Hyderabad India focussing on how, pathology specialties have used therapeutic and preventative solutions to manage health crises worldwide, such as tackling sudden and novel infectious disease outbreaks while also preparing for how pathology can prepare for future health crises.
The Roundtable
On the topic of International Activities at the College in a Changing World Past, Present and Future, a panel will revisit the College’s international work and projects that have helped build capacity in laboratories, assisted with continued professional development and improved quality assurance systems both past and present
Looking to the future, College Fellows who have made a significant contribution to the international activities of the College will also consider how the College and the global pathology community will need to evolve to meet the everchanging needs of a rapidly changing world.
The poster competition
Remains open to entries until Wednesday 26 October, 23.59 (UK time) and will showcase what entrants both internationally and nationally have been working on individually, or as part of a team and are proud of. A range of research ideas across all specialties are highly encouraged.
There will be cash prizes for the winners and their work will be published digitally on the College website.

The contribution and achievements of pathology and laboratory medicine services that address global health challenges and improve the health outcomes of global communities have been recognised and celebrated by pathology and laboratory medicine institutions worldwide on International Pathology Day since it launched in 2014.
