Patient safety and quality improvement
The College works to improve the quality of care and of services for patients through the promotion and dissemination of quality improvement.

The College aims to make a direct contribution to the further education of pathologists and medical professionals.

Revalidation is a process where all licensed doctors have to demonstrate to the GMC that they are up-to-date and fit to practise.

Workforce data
The College collects, collates, and uses workforce data in our discussions with government and workforce agencies including NHSE and the devolved nations to influence and advocate for the pathology workforce in the UK.
Employing pathologists
We work to maintain standards in pathology by reviewing and approving consultant and SAS level job descriptions, both medical and scientific.
Digital pathology
Digital pathology includes the acquisition, management, sharing and interpretation of pathology information — including slides and data — in a digital environment.

Medical examiners
The College is the lead medical royal college for medical examiners and plays a key role in the training of medical examiners and medical examiner officers, as well as working closely with the National Medical Examiner on implementation of the service.

Committees
Most of the work of the College is achieved through sub-committees of Council. Each meeting twice a year, Council sub-committees fall into two groups, namely Committees and Specialty Advisory Committees (SACs).
